Good Samaritans still exist…

Well whaddayaknow, the world isn’t down the toilet just yet. If anyone is in the mood for a feel-good story about cars & people, have a look at these guys.

Cliff notes:

– Lady has a 49 Chevy, needs new transmission, can’t afford to spend much.
– Guy from other side of the country sells her a working transmission for cheap.
– Punk kids attempt to install it unsuccessfully and take money from the owner anyway.
– Guy who sold the transmission asks forum for help
– Forum member/shop owner near the car owner offers his services.
– Forum members all band together, donate money & labour to install the transmission and fix a multitude of problems with the car.
– Decency, kindness & compassion are restored back into mankind.

Rusty Road-Trip

About a week ago I made a post titled Rolling Rust, featuring rolling shots of the patina’d StanceWorks E28 BMW and it’s equally cool trailer, rocking a combined 6 BBS wheels. Little did I know that those pictures belonged to a whole series documenting a road-trip from Tennessee to California. You guys will probably see this on Speedhunters (which is where I found it) but I thought it would be nice to do a follow-up post anyway. Props to Jeroen Willemsen for posting it and bringing it to the masses. For his Speedhunters article click here.

Racer86, project car extraordinaire

I’ve been following the Racer86 blog for a while now, ever since I first saw pictures of his KP30 Starlet which gave me the inspiration to fit a MK1 Rabbit front lip to my Datsun.

Rob is a prominent figure in the retro car scene in the UK due to his multiple project cars and his affiliation with the team at Retro Cars Magazine. Not content with one ballin’ old school ride, he also owns a dumped & flush NA MX5 and recently acquired a Vauxhall Chevette which he wasted no time in modifying. To check out his 3 projects and get a fix of general automotive shenanigans head over to Racer86.com

UPDATE! Since this post was first published, Rob has since moved on to even more projects, buying and modding an assortment of oldschool rides such as; a MK1 Cavalier, W123 Benz, Triumph Herald, an E28 BMW, a 924 Porsche, an E30 BMW, and another Mazda Roadster! Does anyone else live the retro car lifestyle as much as this guy? I doubt it!

Drifting Documentary – show your support!

How many times have you watched a drifting DVD and felt short-changed by the routine footage they dish out? If you’re searching for something more, something real, something that focuses on the community, people, and the soul behind drifting, then head over to Running Life and let Luke know you’ve got his back on his quest to create a drifting documentary unlike any other.

Vintage Build Threads

One thing that has remained consistent since cars first came into production is that guys simply can’t keep themselves from cutting them up and showing off their work. Before blogs and forums, there was black & white photos and car magazines. Rikster from Rik Hoving Kustoms posted up an amazing thread on The H.A.M.B. full of scans detailing the work done by Valley Customs in the late 40’s to early 60’s. Luckily for us, not only did he post pictures of finished cars, but also some rare in-the-build shots. If anyone tells you that modifying cars is just a phase or a fad, show them these pictures.
