A home-built ex fire truck, now fitted to a bagged S10 frame, powered by a 7.3L IDI International turbo diesel…this truck is cool as hell! Not to mention it gets driven hard over long distances. I’m not sure who submitted this, as it’s been sitting in my drafts for a while, but about 20 pages into the thread I noticed my buddy Dave from Stance Is Everything had featured this very truck on his site. I highly recommend heading over to his post to check out not only the fantastic photos he snapped (some which are featured below), but also the story he put together which sums up the build way better than I can.

Fred is a down to earth guy who hosts his own series videos on the MotorTrend channel, which is why he’s allowed to poke fun at Finnegan and Freiburger (and their newfound viral popularity) whenever he so chooses. In this episode, he starts transforming a Plymouth Road Runner into a turbo diesel powered off road warrior.
Forgive me, Church of Build Threads, for I have sinned. It has been less than twelve weeks since my last Mk1 Golf feature, but I cannot resist the temptation put yet another one on the site. I knew I was going to love this build from the first time I saw it, for the sole reason that I’ve already featured a previous build from the same owner, the Mustang Pace Car. I am so jealous of people who manage to have multiple cool builds on the go at the same time, I struggle to even have one! I was very interested to see how the vinyl wrap turned out, as it’s not something I’m used to seeing on classic cars, but it looks great. The car is neat to start with, but becomes a whole lot better with additions and improvements to all the usual areas, such as body, interior, wheels, suspension, and plenty of fine detail work.
Talk about thinking outside the square. If you bought yourself a dead-stock GC8 Subaru Impreza to attack Pikes Peak, what engine choice would you go for? A single turbo EJ20 as found in the WRX? Or maybe the twin turbo version from a JDM Legacy? Perhaps you’d be more inclined to go for the bigger capacity 2.5 EJ25 from the later model Impreza? Or, if you wanted to be really different, you could step up to the EZ30 or EZ36 flat 6 engines?
Well not Gregoire, he went for a flat four Subaru engine that I didn’t even know existed, it’s called an EE20 and it’s diesel powered! Rolling coal in what looks to most people like a 22B? Yeah, that’s very cool! Don’t forget to check out the build summary video at the bottom of the post.

For this build you’ll need to take a step outside of the scene we’re all entrenched in, and see things from a different perspective. Shawn Hibmacronan isn’t your typical hardparking scene-kid, out to get a magazine cover and a tyre sponsorship, far from it. Shawn is an artist, and I’m talking about an actual artist here, not just a guy who doodles in his spare time, but someone who lives his life creating mechanically-influenced sculptures. His latest project, however, finds him crossing over into our world; an aired-out ’63 Ford Econoline with a VW TDI engine swap. Shawn’s philosophy for the car is a bit different from what we’re used to, and that’s what I love about it. It’s refreshing to hear someone from a different subculture talking about a process we’ve become so accustomed to. Another interesting element of this build is that Shawn has started a Kickstarter campaign to help funding, now why didn’t I think of that?!
And now for something completely different, a twin-turbo Duramax powered Nissan Patrol 4wD built for street/strip duties, aiming forÂ 1200rwhp and an 8.XX second ET…wanna read that again? This chassis has been through a few different incarnations during it’s lifetime before being torn down for its current rebuild, so it’s fair to say the owner has definitely made full use of this rig. I was reading about this car in Street Machine Magazine and I decided to do a bit of research to see if I could dig up some build pictures.
Pacific Performance Engineering and Muscle Factory teamed up to customise a 1970 SS Chevelle by slotting in a 6.6L Duramax diesel V8 from a H1 Hummer with a turbo strapped to each side. The magic numbers? How does 900-1200hp and 32mpg sound?
It’s refreshing to see someone taking a different approach instead of the usual big-block crate-motor route.
