EG Civic / S15 Silvia – Stage 1 Complete

It’s been almost a year since we caught up with the Impossible Fabrications / Nulon EG Civic crossed with an S15 Silvia.

The good news is, this little beast is now considered complete as far as stage one goes, and has been tearing up the streets and the track, turning rear tyres to dust. Now the team are looking to screw more power into this formerlly unasumming hatch, and I can’t wait to see how that goes! Don’t forget to check out the video exposé by Motive DVD at the bottom of the post.

Broadfield S14 Cluster Build

Waaay back in 2010 (geez this blog is old!) I featured a little exposé on an automotive artisan called Toby Broadfield. I’ve been visiting Toby’s blog on-and-off since around that time, always in awe of his attention to detail when cutting up and re-shaping interior pieces. Now that I’m getting closer to overhauling my own interior and gauge cluster, I find myself re-visiting his blog just that little bit more. When I saw this detailed write-up focusing on all the steps he took to modify a customer’s S14 Silvia cluster, I thought it was too good not to share.

EG Civic / S15 Silvia – Buttoning things up

We’re already up to Part 5 of the Impossible Fabrications / Nulon EG Civic build. In this installment we start at the back of the car to see the rear suspension framework finalised, and an alloy fuel tank fabricated. Then we work our way along the tailshaft and custom transmission tunnel, before heading to the front of the car where the bay is resprayed and the engine re-fitted. It’s almost time for SR20DET  RWD Civic burnouts!

EG Civic / S15 Silvia – Rear suspension & driveline

The guys at Impossible Fabrications are absolutely rocketing along with the Nulon EG Civic build, I can barely keep up! In part 3, we saw the SR20DET inserted into the engine bay, using the S15 front suspension, crossmember and strut towers. Now it’s the rear of the car getting some very similar attention…

EG Civic / S15 Silvia – Engine installed!

Part 3 of the Nulon / Impossible Fabrications EG Civic is already here! In this update, we see the S15 SR20DET engine and gearbox find their way home. Of course they were always going to fit perfectly, because this particular little Honda already has a full S15 front end, which we saw installed in Part 2.

EG Civic / S15 Silvia – Front Suspension

Here is Part 2 of the EG Civic / S15 Silvia build, which concentrates on the team at Impossible Fabrications ripping out the standard engine and front end, to replace it with the underpinnings from the S15. This is turning out to be almost factory looking! Read on…

EG Civic / S15 Silvia – Intro + Teardown

Not long ago I posted a link on the Facebook page about this very interesting project from Sydney, Australia. I’ve since been asked by the owner, Christopher, if I would like to re-post the progress of the build on Build-Threads.com, to which I happily obliged. So here is part 1, which gives you a nice rundown on the project including an introduction to the project car and it’s donor. I’m very excited to see this project take shape, and I’d like to thank Nulon and Impossible Fabrication for giving me the opportunity to share it with you. Part 2 is already up, you’ll find the link at the bottom of this post.

Please check out Impossible Fabricaions and Nulon Australia.

A tale of two Silvias

I always bang on about the elements that make a good build thread, and having nice photos is usually top of the list. But another key element to a great thread is using it as a platform to tell a story, as a reader you want to get lost in the journey and feel like you’re along for the ride. That’s how I felt when I read both of Laurence’s threads a few years ago, first about his S14 and the other about his S13. I remember briefly reading about some of his exploits on another forum – including being busted, interrogated and fined by Japanese cops for street drifting – so I was excited to see he took the time to write his stories in full on JDMST.

LS3 S13

What happens when you work for a major car magazine and share a fully equipped communal garage with your sister titles? You build a badass car, that’s what. Fresh black paint, OEM aero, all the good bits underneath, and an LS3 V8 swap to supply the power makes for one very tasteful and effortlessly powerful S13. And what better way to test the limits of your freshly built and swapped car than with a 2400 mile road trip?
