LX Torana GTR

If you’re an Aussie, like I am, then you’d be well versed in the Holden vs Ford debate, even if you don’t fancy either marquee, it’s an argument with no expiry date. Almost as well known as this red and blue rivalry is the tale of the Nissan Skyline GTR dominating the touring car races of the early 90’s, a story regularly re-told by many a Skyline owner with a smirk on their face. It’s fair to say the Skyline was not liked by Holden and Ford fans of that era. So what do we make of this, then? A Holden LX Torana fitted with an R32 Skyline GTR engine and AWD system. Two ex-Bathurst legends which would have been fierce rivals on ‘The Mountain’ were it not for the age gap, now combined into one machine. Personally, I love it, and I thank you for following that very drawn-out intro that possibly makes little sense at all.

Thanks to Travis for submitting.

Forum spotlight: JDMST (pt1)

I’m a member of many different forums, but I’m not much of a poster. JDM Style Tuning was one of the first forums that I really got involved in, posting regularly and attending meets. While I don’t post there much these days, I still like to read the forum almost daily and make the odd post every now and then. There are a number of great builds on the forum, so I thought I’d do a little spotlight on some of my favourites in no particular order. Please note, this is not a “best of”, it’s just the ones that tickle my fancy. There’s a few builds to get through, so I’ll split them up over a few different posts over the next couple of months in between regular build features.

VQ35HR R32 Skyline

I just did a quick search and noticed I’ve only ever featured 3 Skyline’s since this site’s inception, and the last one was over 2 years ago! I think this one is more than deserving enough to get the marquee back on the front page. It’s an R32 GTR which becomes devoid of it’s RB26DETT straight-6 and AWD drivetrain, instead being fitted with a VQ35HR and 6-speed from a 370Z with a turbo strapped to each bank. I have to admit, the real reason I wanted to feature this car is because I’d find myself continually visiting the thread just to look at the picture of the engine, it’s combination of wrinkle red paint, black plastic, cast and polished metals, silver and gold reflective heat material, AN fittings and exhaust heat wrap is automotive art to my eyes.

Show Style GTS-T R33 Skyline

Lately in the car scene we’re so used to seeing cars that you could describe as “rough & ready”. Drift pigs, hood ride, and rat style modifications are so popular these days that we tend to forget the people out there who still like to have a top notch paint job with perfect fit & finish (a show car if you will), a style that some could say has now had it’s time. The following car might seem like it’s a bit dated in the exterior styling and wheel choice departments by today’s standards, but the owner’s passion and dedication to his car shines above and beyond any fashion based concerns. Watch as he resprays his car, then takes it back to bare metal and paints it a second time, playing close attention to panel gaps and shaping fiberglass parts to perfection, all while maintaining an enthusiastic attitude and enjoying the journey with his mates and girlfriend.
