I caught a glimpse of this animal on the MK1 section of VWvortex (another one of my favourite places to lurk). Luckily someone located some more info on the project and posted up a link. I can’t wait to see this thing completed, it’s definitely something different.

Corrado Drag Build
Arnas emailed me a link to this build which I know absolutely nothing about, except that it looks damn serious. The link just features a bunch of pictures, so if anyone has any info please feel free to leave a comment.
Edit: Arnas just emailed me some more information on this build. The car was originally tuned to it’s limits using the factory platform until it couldn’t be developed any further. About 10 years or so ago, the Lithuanian owner decided to gut the car completely and build it into the full framed beast you see below, using a composite body and powered by the cars original engine. You can see the car in it’s previous form here.

Race Taxi 993 Turbo Kombi
Mental Kombi’s with engine swaps are not a new thing, there seems to be heaps of them on the internet. There must be something about making a brick shaped bus go ridiculously fast that get’s peoples creative juices flowing.
Here’s a neat one from Race Taxi powered by a Porsche 993 biturbo engine, with a carbon fiber roof of course.

But when there are so many awesome VW builds on the internet, I just have to share them with the masses, regardless of any similarities it might have with other cars. Just take a look at how it started, and what they turned it into…
Mk3 VW Golf – Roxy
The VW scene is one i truly admire. The haters can hate all they want, but I’m always browsing v-dub sites for inspiration and ideas. People who modify VW’s tend to try new things first without caring what other people think, and they also strive to be different and think outside the square. I see their culture as being closer to hot-rodding then “tuning” (hate that word), as their rides have a real emphasis on character.
One such ride is Roxy the Mk3 Golf, a themed build with a vintage racing/bobber Harley feel, the real highlights are in the details. Check out the seats, custom fuel-cell, hinged in-dash gauge pods, hand-made badge, vintage cloth wrapped spark leads, etc etc.
Roxy is built by jkrate, graphic designers from Virginia. Graphic Designers make the best car builders, and I’m not saying that just because I am one, but because I know that they see their car as a complete composition, not just a bunch of parts thrown together. I love builds like this, and I can honestly say it has inspired me.
