Red Victor 3 – Vauxhall VX4/90 FD

I haven’t featured many drag cars in comparison to other build styles on this site, but Slinky from Red Victor 1 Racing over in the UK sent me the teams latest build and I knew it deserved a post. This style of drag car is usually the domain of American builders who focus their attention on the quintessential muscle cars from Detroit, so it’s good to see the same treatment being given to a unique car in a totally different part of the world.

The car in question is a 1972 Vauxhall VX4/90 FD being built for the NHRA/FIA Pro Modified class, with a twin turbo methanol slurping 540ci V8 shoehorned between the towers. The team are intending to make this the worlds only street-legal, NHRA legal, Pro Mod car. I guess that all depends on your definition of street legal!

  1. Epic car, as much as I have always love the FD body style I never even contemplated it with the chop and 2-dooring. Andy Frost is an absolutle gent too, cant wait to see this in the flesh

  2. I liked how the car turned out. it looks great.I have one of these fd and would like to convert it to a two door, my only problem is what did Andy do for the glass seeing that you’ll made the door longer.I’m not going to be racing but I’m fitting the car with an LS3 motor with a little over 800 horses.

  3. Hi Mervin, a company called plastics4performance made the windows. Give them a call and they would make them for you too.

The car turned out better than i ever hoped, and is now the worlds quickest and fastest street legal car in the 1/4 mile. There are lots of videos of the car in action on the track, and the street, and are available at http://www.youtube.com/redvictorracing
