World Time Attack 2010

Last weekend, myself and 3 friends drove over 800km north to Sydney, Australia, to attend the 2010 World Time Attack Challenge. It was well worth the drive, with 2 days full of local and international cars battling it out for the fasted time around Eastern Creek Raceway. Here are some of the images I took over the course of the event…

get THE LOWDOWN

A few of the boys over at JDM Style Tuning, have collaborated to launch a new blog devised to showcase some local Aussie talent titled The-Lowdown.

Time and time again, car enthusiasts from our great country cry foul after viewing images of car meets from abroad, constantly bickering about how bad our scene is compared to what’s on offer overseas. Well, newsflash, we have plenty of top-notch cars and a great scene to boot, just no global soapbox from which to broadcast and filter only the best content. The-Lowdown is that soapbox, so head over there and hear what they have to say.

Help a brother out…

Matt Lindsey aka Cereal has been one of (if not the) best submitters on Build Threads. If it wasn’t for the people who email me the builds they find, this site wouldn’t be what it is today, and Matt constantly comes up with the goods. When I heard that he had to put his ’05 Subaru WRX on the market due to recent unemployment, I felt compelled to help spread the word. So if anyone out in the U S of A is looking for a rexy (STi clone) then follow the link or click the pic for more information. http://houston-imports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=571261

Good luck Matt!

Leroy Thompson Salt Flat Racer

Thanks to Oli from Supermade (one of the OG buddies of Build Threads) for posting up this sweet bike on his blog the other day. Once I saw it, I jumped straight on my email to ask him if he had any more info about it. This would have to be one of the best bikes I’ve ever seen, according to my own personal taste of course. I’m not a fan of glitzy choppers with stretched out frames that make you look like you need to lie flat on your face to ride them.

Built by Leroy Thompson Choppers for the 2009 AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building, I was disappointed to hear that it only achieved 24th place. Never mind though, it doesn’t dampen the fact that it’s a revelation to me in regards to style and appearance. It makes me want to build a car using a similar approach. So many ideas, not enough time or money. You can read more about it on the AMD blog by clicking here.

This bike is pure quality, it’s modern yet oldschool at the same time, and I love all of the details, like the tall Halibrand style wheels, the lack of a steamroller rear tyre, how the bright red frame contrasts against the neutral colours of the rest of the bike, the yellow spark leads, the stickers on the stubby rear fender, and the overall stance of the bike…did I mention I like this bike? I have to thank Oli again, not only for posting the pic in the first place, but for going out of his way to find more information on the bike when I asked him about it. Make sure you check out his blog, it’s full of no-nonsense automotive goodness, especially if you’re a VW fan, do it!

Performing…

I get hits from all kinds of random forums, and every now and BMX in Scotland pops up in my stats section so I thought I’d throw this pic up in response.

This is my two-wheeled project, so expect a full write-up when it’s completed. I’m also working on my fourth and final Speedhunters feature, so sit tight for that one. I also have a stack of awesome submissions from readers to get through, so thank you to all who submit builds and I apologise if I can’t reply to all the emails, I’ll get through them eventually.

Kyusha Kai sittin’ pretty

I just had to share this pic of the Kyusha Kai S30Z, it’s looking hard! The bright orange paint, the stripe down the side, the wheels, the lip, the stance, everything just works so damn well.

I wanted to take my 510 out for a drive today but the weather didn’t agree with me, so seeing this pic has sort of made me feel better, Datsun love!
