4-Rotor Volvo 142

Those crazy Swedes! I don’t think I’ve ever featured a build from the Nordic region that hasn’t been absolutely bonkers. This time it’s a Volvo 142 that has received a hand built custom chassis beneath a gutted floor pan, with a minor engine upgrade to go with it. Wait, did I say ‘minor’? I meant to say ‘completely custom designed and machined quad-rotor 26B’. The pictures speak for themselves.

Thanks to Tony from Mooseville Performance (the owner/builder) and also reader Matthias for submitting on separate occasions.

1969 Porsche 911 GT3 Restomod

When multiple people submit the same build to you, it’s probably time to get it up on the site. This build is only a few pages long, but what it lacks in length it makes up for with content. While the whole world seems to be on an air-cooled Porsche buzz, this particular long-nose receives a water-cooled 2006 GT3 Cup motor, not to mention a carbon fiber wide body and plenty of one-off parts and fabrication, culminating in one very fast and good looking ’69.

Lancia Delta Evo1 – Part 2(JZ)

Remember this Lancia Delta I featured back in November 2009? No? Well, that’s okay, because I didn’t either! The build was submitted to me very recently, so after assessing it I started the usual process of putting the post together. It actually took me about 10 or so pages before the build started to look familiar. So why am I featuring it again? Because the car gets a full overhaul and is now a completely different beast compared to a few years ago. You’ll probably see pictures of it on the track on Speedhunters within their 2013 Gatebil coverage, so it seems as good a time as ever to share the build with you.

Mk1 Golf Kamei Replica

I’ve got a fair few builds that have been sitting in my inbox for quite a while, so for this post I decided to go all the way back to my oldest submission from June 2010, 3 years ago! Looking at it now, I’m kicking myself for not featuring it sooner. You should know by now that I have a penchant for MK1 Golfs, and this one here is actually a Kamei replica created from what was already a clean street car. This build combines 3 of my loves: Mk1’s, retro liveries, and hill climb racers. If it was a Datsun I think my head would explode. For some history on Kamei, click here and here.

LSX E39 BMW Wagon

Every now and then I’ll waffle on about what makes a good build thread. My list of requirements usually includes nice photography, good writing, quality modifications, and the ability to tell a story. Well this is one of those threads, and I can always tell when I really like one because reading it isn’t a chore, it’s a pleasure that I never want to end, no matter how many pages I click through. The owner, Brandon, says goodbye to his very clean M52 turbo powered E34 525i and then sets out to build a manual LSX powered E39 wagon, documenting the build with images that look like they’ve been plucked straight out of a catalogue. When you see his collection of previous rides, you realise he’s one of those people who have a kind of midas touch when it comes to cars, knowing how to show restraint and refine a car with carefully chosen improvements, no matter what the make, model or era.

Datsun 411 / MX5

We need people like Bob. People with vision, people who have skills and love putting them to good use, people who have the itch to continue creating cool cars, time and time again. You might remember Bob from one of his previous projects that also graced these pages, the MX520. It seems that stuffing Mazda MX5 running gear under Datsun bodies is obviously something Bob loves doing, because he’s back to his old tricks, this time with a Datsun 411 wagon on the receiving end of the grinder.

Bagged Porsche Dually

Not the kind of title you’d see every day, right? After overwhelming feedback on the Facebook page, I bring you this very unique piece of machinery. What was originally a Porsche 911 is now merely a Stuttgart shell sitting atop a Chevy pickup dually chassis, with a 454 V8 and 4-speed, riding on air. The build isn’t finished, the thread goes cold after just over 2 pages. If anyone knows what ever happened to this thing, please let me know!

Fabricated Ford F150

What is it about off-road guys that makes them churn out pr0n-quality fabrication? Is it the fact that their parts need to endure high levels of abuse, or do they just like leaving the rest of us in awe? I could just post a bunch of welding pics from this thread without actually showing the car and people would be highly entertained. This Ford F150 is transformed into a rolling collection of beefy one-off hand made parts, culminating in a vehicle so robust that it could probably survive an atom bomb.

Thanks to Cody for submitting.

VH41 V8 airbagged Cedric

There’s really no introduction I can type up for this car that will do it justice, so I’m just going to give you the facts, because they’re way more impressive than anything I could muster up. Nissan/Datsun Cedric, VH41 V8 conversion, custom-made cast ITB’s with carbon velocity stacks, airbags on all 4 corners with tubular crossmembers and arms, 4 link rear end, and some of my favourite oldschool JDM rims; August Feroce’s. Oh man, I’m getting a cold sweat just thinking about it. It’s also gracing the cover of the June 2013 issue of NZ Performance Car Magazine.

Thanks to Nils for submitting, who also submitted the K20 1st Gen Civic.
