Performance VW Site of the Month + 100k views

Well I’m back from Fiji, and back to reality. Before I get back into posting content, I’d like to thank Elliot and the team at Performance VW Magazine for choosing Build Threads as their “Site of the Month” in the latest issue. What an honour, truly flattering. When I started this blog for a bit of fun at the beginning of the year, I never imagined I’d be getting this sort of exposure in such a short amount of time. Being in Australia I haven’t actually seen the article in print yet, since we get some international magazines a bit late, but Jeroen has kindly showed me this photo, thanks Jeroen!

Here’s a video of the double page spread thanks to the guys over at Puregroove/GarageZero & Violent Running. Congrats to them for having their TE31 Corolla blipped. You can read their posts here & here.

I’ve got heaps of content to sort through, lot’s of new submissions, so bare with me and I’ll get back to our regular programming soon!

Chrome Bumper JDM Cruise

Today me and a couple of friends jumped in the Datto and ventured out into the cold & miserable Melbourne weather to attend a “chrome bumper” Japanese car meet. In total there was about 40 or 50 cars, from Datsuns to Mazdas, Toyotas, and even a couple of old Hondas. It was great to see all of the old J-tin in one spot, and hopefully once summer rolls around there will be more gatherings like this. A mate of mine snapped some pictures, come and take a look…

Z31 300ZX Drift Car

Thanks to an anonymous reader for submitting this build. I remember reading this exact thread a couple of years ago when I used to visit the Body Shop section of ZipTied religiously. This is definitely one of the coolest Z31’s in the world, lots of custom work and who doesn’t love the fighter-jet instrument panel!? So unique and badass.

Blade Rod – CBR900 RR

The other day, on my daily blog/forum browsing, I was reading NoriYaro when I noticed Alexi mentioned a bike project that I had read about years ago. That bike was the Blade Rod, a custom 1998 Honda CBR900RR built by Mark Boxer, one of the people behind the new drift & stunt DVD Phat Sliggity.

1972 Trans Am Restoration

To take a break from the wild custom fabricated builds, here’s a loving restoration of a 1972 Trans Am, submitted by the owner of the car and Build Threads reader, Steve. The car is being restored to better-than-new condition after being on the receiving end of a small engine fire in the previous owner’s garage. Luckily for us, Steve is taking the time to document the process of his impressive detail work.
