I wanted the last post to concentrate on the bulk of the engine work, so I chose to emit some of the smaller jobs in order to help it flow better. 1976 International Scout Traveler

Even though I’m not into off-roading myself, I really enjoy reading builds from this dirt-loving subculture. Reason being is that I get to see the same metal-working techniques being implemented for a different purpose, it’s just interesting to see the similarities and differences. High instead of low, mud instead of asphalt, dirt instead of shine, but at the end of the day we are all modifying our vehicles so we can enjoy them beyond the expectations the manufacturer had in mind for them. This particular build is a 1976 Scout Traveler, a vehicle made by International, and it’s being built to a very high standard for the purpose of long and remote hunting trips in the countryside.

Build-Threads Garage: Exterior sheeting & doors

I probably should have broken this up into two parts so as not to make it so long between posts, but now you get to see the garage go from a skeleton to complete in one go! In the last post, we had finalised the main framework, and it was now time to attach the wall and roof sheets. For this post I’m going to note how long the gaps were between construction, because it’s easy to think we knocked this up fairly quickly and easily. In reality we only had one day a week to work on it (Saturdays), and even then we could only work when my friends and I were available, so progress was quite slow as going weeks without working was quite common.

20B-powered Time Attack NC MX5

Time Attack season is almost upon us, with World Time Attack Challenge just around the corner (click here for my photos from 2010), I thought it would be a great time to share this long-term build from Australia. The brainchild of a Mazda aficionado and die-hard collector, this NC MX5 welcomes the addition of firstly a supercharged Renesis 13B, and then a 20B 3-rotor with individual throttle bodies and a whole host of goodies. Apart from all the CAD screenshots, machined metal goodness, fabrication, welding and general race-car building, you’ll also find a bonus R35 GTR build and a visit to Mazda HQ in Hiroshima within the thread.

EG Civic / S15 Silvia – Rear suspension & driveline

The guys at Impossible Fabrications are absolutely rocketing along with the Nulon EG Civic build, I can barely keep up! In part 3, we saw the SR20DET inserted into the engine bay, using the S15 front suspension, crossmember and strut towers. Now it’s the rear of the car getting some very similar attention…

What I’m Watching: Ferrari F40 – Analogue Animal

Yes, I am obsessed with F40s. No, I don’t apologise. This lovely 17min film from XCARFilms combines a touching monologue by F40 expert and former racer, John Pogson, mixed with some on-track footage of a pair of special F40’s. Make sure you turn your speakers up when the two prancing horses step on it.

Saab 96 / Mazda MX5

I remember back in 2011 when I posted a certain chassis swap build, I commented on how long it had been since the last one was featured on the site. Well it sure doesn’t seem like we have that problem any more, because it feels like almost every second build is a chassis swap! If you’re having dejavu at the title of this one, that’s because I’ve already featured a similar project in the past. It seems the humble Mazda roadster is quite a popular donor for these types of builds. The more the merrier I say!

EG Civic / S15 Silvia – Engine installed!

Part 3 of the Nulon / Impossible Fabrications EG Civic is already here! In this update, we see the S15 SR20DET engine and gearbox find their way home. Of course they were always going to fit perfectly, because this particular little Honda already has a full S15 front end, which we saw installed in Part 2.
