You’ve seen it before, you’ve heard the love, you’ve no doubt heard the hate, and you probably aren’t sitting on the fence when it comes to your own opinion on this ride. I’m not here to sway you either way, but the owner/builder/evil mastermind behind this infamous and ever-evolving 5-series has just put together a beautifully photographed build thread showcasing its entire colourful past from the very beggining, including the 1JZ swap and recent roof chop, and it’s my job to bring it to your attention. It’s too bad that one of the leaders of the movement has gone to so much effort to make his car undriveable. I can’t say that I understand Mike, to be honest.
Before the chop it was one of the most monumentally brilliant cars on the internet. Now unfortunately it’s gone a bit out of shape (or to be less charitable it’s crap).
This car gets more insane with each incarnation. Now, whether or not that ‘insanity’ is good or bad is up to each inidividual viewer.
I think the creativity shown in that car is staggering. I don’t care much for the shape of the roof line with the chop now (I think he should have either left it unchopped or stopped at 3″), but everything else is awesome. As far as it being undriveable…I think it is actually very driveable…if you read the whole thread he has the car on air, so a driveable stance is just a switch away. I don’t know how I feel about the gold wheels, I sort of liked the previous set more…the gold stands out a bit too much for me.
Also, the car has been compared to a VW “hood ride” which couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s more of a modern day rat rod IMO. For those who question its practicality, ask yourself what practicality is there in a normal rat rod?
Would I do this to a car? No. Did I love reading about it and drooling over the creativity he showed? I sure did.
I think if you go to the effort of reading the whole build you will realize this is the result of a creative evolution.
It would been easier from him to stripped it, scrap it and move on but he persisted. Every time it was ‘re-done’ it pushed the boundaries of BMW modding. Just because it’s a modern Euro saloon that makes it so extreme, if it was an old Ford or Mercury it would just be another custom.
Personally i love it, it’s bat shit crazy but that’s kind of the point…

I did read the whole build thread, and like that he essentially gave the car one last hoorah before it finally kills itself. It’s almost like a celebrity who’s decided to go out by overdosing on cocaine in a sea of strippers. It’s completely ruined, but that’s part of why it’s cool.

I think everyone has there favourite stage with this car, mine is when it had the kc spotlights, that was love at first sight haha the roof chop isnt doing it for me, but im always watching for its next transformation
I think the car was awesome in all the stages. It is very drivable with the air ride suspension and probably handle pretty good still. The chop is rad. A Bimmer with a huge chop top shows huge creativity and how we can all push the envelop of the custom car. Some people are bashing him a bit for doing it but I say it only take one to start a new trend. It is SICK!!!!!
i’ve read about this car for a while now. i remember the road trip and how it’d overheat and blah blah blah.
the new chopped top is cool but i’m not sure if i like it as much as when it was just the normal height. the gold rims are cool though.

None of his wheels were in the garage, suspension, motor, etc were on the shell in the aftermath picture. Your interpretation.
