Project Hoonda – Turbo CBR900RR [video build]

If you’ve been a reader of Build Threads since the beginning, then you might remember the BladeRod feature from back in 2009. It’s owner, Mark, the man behind the very entertaining automotive YouTube channel, HoonTV, is a bit of a CBR900 nutter, as he explains in detail in this video. One of the bikes from his fleet of CBR’s is this ’98 model currently in the build at Extreme Creations. Being built in a Street Fighter style it features a heap of custom parts such as a half machined/ half hand-formed plenum, an Aprilia swing arm, billet wheels, oh and did I mention the Garret T28 turbocharger?

Datsun 240z: Projekt Hugo

From the dark depths of build thread history comes Projekt Hugo. Does anyone remember this video series about a guy from Sweden who imported a supposedly “rust free” 240z from the US, only to find it littered with rotted metal? He then proceeded to rebuild the car whilst documenting the whole thing on well-edited videos. This was before the days of Youtube or Vimeo and before every car guy was a photographer/videographer, so a series of clips like this was a big deal back then.

If you’re anything like me (which, if you’re reading this, you probably are), then you love watching car videos online. The only annoying thing is trying to find them, because let’s face it, navigating YouTube can get tiring after a while, there’s only so many times I can handle watching videos that are NOTHING like what the thumbnail and description makes them out to be. That’s where Autos in HD comes into the picture. Much like Build-Threads gathers up all your favourite builds from around the ‘net and posts them in one convenient place, Autos in HD does the same thing with videos. Formula Drift C6 Corvette build Ep1

One thing I love more than reading about a good build is actually watching one, my numerous seasons of Rides & Overhaulin’ DVDs at home are proof to that, not to mention the hours worth of Wheeler Dealers I’ve watched on Youtube! Pictures are great, but video is better, so naturally I was excited to see that Formula Drift driver Luke Lonberger is video-documenting the build of his 2011 car, a C6 Corvette. Here is the first video, shot by Lab17, with more to follow soon, I can’t wait!

For the past few years, a passionate team of Australian car enthusiasts have been busy producing/filming/editing their own brand of car videos, picking up the slack left by the uninspiring Australian Top Gear.
