’79 Mustang Pace Car

There’s a couple of reasons why I love this build. First of all, coming from Australia I’ve never seen a Mustang of this year, let-alone a modified one. I’ve seen plenty of mid/late 60s, early 70s, and a few current models, but never one like this. I guess I’d have to go to a Mustang-specific show to see one in the flesh. Secondly, how freaking cool are retro pace car graphics!? This retired race marshal receives a new millennium freshen-up, with air ride, some big billet wheels, a carbon/suede combo interior, and a DOHC supercharged donk set to be fitted in the not too distant future.

MotoIQ.com – Project V8 RX7

One of my favourite websites, MotoIQ, has just finished up one of their staff builds, Project V8 RX7. As it’s title suggests, it’s a Mazda RX7 receiving a V8 engine transplant, an California Smog-Legal E-Rod LS3 to be precise. Midmounted Mazda Minitruck [video build]

This following build was part of the teasers I placed in my “Best of 2010” guest-post on Speedhunters last year. Out of the 5 teasers, I have only managed to do a follow-up feature one of them, The Widow Maker. Well, here’s number two!

This minitruck is like no other I’ve seen. It might be bagged and body-dropped like many others, but what sets it apart from the rest is the Lexus V8 sitting behind the cabin. Another element of this build that strays away from the norm is that Nick, the owner and builder, has chosen to document the build in video format, creating his own YouTube channel to showcase the progress. The updates are always informative and entertaining, with some choice Kiwi wit thrown in amongst the tech stuff. Batmobile…nuff said.

If you have a pulse, then there’s a good chance you wanted to drive a Batmobile at some stage in your life, and probably still do. The only variable is which Batmobile you prefer, depending on your age. Hell, I still vividly remember the glow-in-the-dark Batman poster I used to have hanging in my room as a kid. Well, some people out there take this desire a step further and actually go out and build one, just like Tim here, who planned his own Batmobile replica for 10 long years before starting on the actual build. The fiberglass body sits atop a stretched Chevy Caprice donor chassis, plus plenty of trick fabrication going on to make this dream a detailed reality, not to mention the Blackberry controlled mechanics!

LS3 NC MX5

In the past I’ve seen plenty of pictures of NA MX5’s with their windscreens chopped off, hurling around a race track with a minimal amount of metal left on the car in the interests of faster lap times. But I have to say, this would be the first time I’ve seen the same treatment being given to a newer, NC model MX5. Not only has it been put on a healthy weight loss program, it also now has an LS3 V8 sitting in front of the lucky driver, new custom front and rear subframes, plus a whole lot of other stuff you should definitely check out below.

Model A Coupe

We haven’t had a good ol’ hot rod on the site for a little while, so here’s one that’s been patiently waiting in my archives. A classic looking Model A, low to the ground, in a gorgeous combination of blue and gold, stunning in it’s simplicity. Notice the distinct lack of rust, skulls, or goofy body proportions. This is my kind of rod.

BMW E30 V8 $2010 Challenge

What better way to kick off the new year than with one of the most popular platforms in the word for modifying, the BMW E30. This E30, concocted by the team at Vorshlag, was built to compete in the Grassroots Motorsports $2010 Challenge, and then went on to win the $2012 event the following year. Watch as it goes through three engine swaps and two paint-schemes, all while being cleverly modified by the Vorshlag team to be competitive while keeping under the budget limit.

Eleanor

Is there any other car that can be so easily and instantly identified by it’s nickname? We’ve all seen the movie and felt the urge to step into the screen and drive that fastback right out of the cinema parking lot, but for most of us the dream ended when the credits rolled. Most of us. For one Eleanor fan over in NY, simply dreaming wasn’t enough, so he sold his ’03 Cobra to fund the purchase of a ’67 Mustang and set about creating the most accurate representation of the famous fastback that he possibly could. What stands out about this particular replica is the attention to even the smallest details that are usually left out by most who attempt it.

BMW E46 V8 Drift build

I saw a video of this beastly creation a couple of weeks ago and the first thing that struck me about it was the appearance of the car without it’s rear bodywork. I love how the builder has almost created the car in a ute/pickup fashion, making the bodywork rear of the b-pillar detachable for easy access to the rear section of the chassis and driveline. 73 Plymouth Cuda

Aaron Beck is a concept designer and die-hard car guy from New Zealand, and if you’ve ‘liked’ the Build Threads Facebook page you would have seen me post a link to his amazing E-body photoshops a while back. Aaron contacted me to tell me all about his Cuda project that he’s been documenting, so I’ll let his words give you a quick rundown:

I’m currently building up my ’73 Plymouth ‘Cuda into a tough street/track car. It’s old-school mopar through and through, with a 440 big block and 4 speed. It’s my first car, first build, and I’m doing all the work myself. Here’s a bit of detail about the plans: – Fully stitch welded body, lots of custom bracing, including 8 point half cage. – Fiberglass fenders and hood. – Hotchkis suspension. – Lots of custom touches, including steering quickener, hood tach, handbrake, camera mounts etc…
